Benbow & Mouat Mine Tour

Have you ever wanted to visit the legendary Benbow and Mouat Mines or see the historic Mouat Lake Camp perched high above the Stillwater Complex? This summer, the Museum of the Beartooths invites you on a one-of-a-kind, guided off-road tour through some of the region’s most significant mining sites — locations rarely open to the public.
Thanks to special permission from Sibanye Stillwater, this exclusive tour offers an unforgettable chance to explore the geology and history of these remote areas, guided by experts who know them best.
Tour Details:
- Date: Saturday, July 19, 2025
- Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Location: Tour begins from a designated meeting point (details provided upon registration)
- Guides: Retired geologist Ennis Gerraghty and a representative from Sibanye Stillwater
- OPI Credit: Educators will receive 8 OPI renewal units for participating
What to Expect:
- Ride UTVs or ATVs to reach historic sites
- Short hikes at each stop to explore on foot
- Interpretive talks on mining history, regional geology, and the significance of each site
- Beautiful views and access to rarely seen historic landmarks
What to Bring:
- Your own lunch, water, and weather-appropriate clothing
- Sturdy hiking shoes
- A sense of adventure!
Transportation Notes:
Participants must provide their own UTV or ATV. A limited number of seats may be available for those without a vehicle — please contact the museum to check availability or discuss rental options.
